Biography
Dulce José da Silva Pontes is a Portuguese fado singer and songwriter. She studied piano at the Lisbon Conservatory and trained in contemporary dance before working as an actress, singer, and dancer in theatre and television productions. In 1991, she won the RTP Song Festival and represented Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest with "Lusitana paixão," placing 8th, and also competed in the OTI Festival with "Ao sul da América" that same year. Her debut album, Lusitana (1992), was followed by Lágrimas (1993), which featured the internationally successful song "Canção do mar," later used in the film Primal Fear. Subsequent releases include O Primeiro Canto (1999), O Coração Tem Três Portas (2006), and Perfil (2022). Throughout her career, Pontes has collaborated with Ennio Morricone, Andrea Bocelli, José Carreras, and The Chieftains, among many others.
