Biography

Candace Lee Camacho, known professionally as duendita, was born in Jamaica, Queens, Newâ¯York, and is an American soulâR&B singerâsongwriter. After studying at Fiorelloâ¯H.â¯LaGuardia High School and NYUâs Future Music Mogul program, she adopted the stage name duendita, inspired by the concept of duende ("elf" or "leprechaun" in Spanish). Her first single, "one of one," appeared in 2014, followed by "yikes!" in 2017, the lead to her debut album Direct Line to My Creator released on Novemberâ¯9â¯2018 as her NYU senior thesis. A mentalâhealth hiatus interrupted her career until an East River audiovisual performance in Marchâ¯2024. Duendita then issued the EP The Mind is a Miracle (Septemberâ¯2024), the album A Strong Desire to Survive (Aprilâ¯4â¯2025), and Existential Thottie (Aprilâ¯29â¯2026).
