Biography

Sparta is an American rock band formed in 2001 in El Paso, Texas, by vocalist and guitarist Jim Ward, bassist Matt Miller, and drummer Tony Hajjar, all formerly of At the Drive‑In. The group released the Austere EP in April 2002, followed by the debut album Wiretap Scars in August 2002, which included the single "Cut Your Ribbon". In October 2004 they issued Porcelain, and in February 2007 the album Threes brought the single "Taking Back Control". After a hiatus in 2008, Sparta returned in 2011 and released Trust the River in April 2020, featuring "Believe" and "Miracle". The band’s fifth studio effort, Sparta, was issued in October 2022, produced as a duo with Jim Ward and Matt Miller. Sparta toured extensively with acts such as Pearl Jam, Incubus, and My Chemical Romance, and their music appeared in film and video‑game soundtracks, including The Invisible and Madden NFL 07. In 2026, the band released their sixth studio full-length, Cut a Silhouette.
