Biography

The heavy metal band Dream Widow first appeared in Studio 666, a horror-comedy film starring Foo Fighters bandmates Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear, Nate Mendel, and Rami Jaffee. In the film, Dream Widow's members appear in a flashback sequence from 1993, with the band's deceased frontman going on to possess Grohl's character during the 2020s. Although originally a fictional band, Dream Widow became a full-blown reality in 2022, when Dave Grohl recorded an album of heavy metal songs under the group's name. The self-titled record, Dream Widow, was released in March 2022, one month after Studio 666 first appeared in movie theaters. Serving as an unofficial soundtrack to the film itself, Dream Widow featured eight songs inspired by metal bands like Trouble, Corrosion of Conformity, and Kyuss, with "March of the Insane" serving as the album's lead single. Any potential plans to tour behind the record were shelved when the Foo Fighters' longtime drummer, Taylor Hawkins, unexpectedly passed away that spring. Even so, Dream Widow's debut album resonated with heavy metal fans and proved to be a minor hit, reaching Number 138 on the Billboard 200 during the Christmas season.
