Biography

Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band was a Bronx, New York-based band formed in 1974 by brothers Stony Browder Jr. and Thomas Browder, also known as August Darnell. The group blended disco beats with rhythms from genres including calypso, rhumba, cha-cha-chá, and compas. Their debut album, Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band, released in 1976, featured the Number 1 US dance hit "Cherchez La Femme / C'est si bon". The band continued to release albums until their disbandment in 1979, including Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band Meets King Penett (1978) and Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band Goes to Washington (1979). Notable songs from this period include "Wiggle and Giggle All Night", which became a Top 20 hit in the Netherlands. In 1984, a smaller lineup known as Dr. Buzzard's Savannah Band released a fourth album. The band was frequent performers at Studio 54. Following the group's disbandment, members pursued solo careers or formed new bands such as Kid Creole and the Coconuts. Stony Browder Jr. passed away in 2001.
