Downy Mildew was an American folk pop/alternative rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1984. The initial lineup included Jenny Homer on guitar and vocals, Charlie Baldonado on vocals and guitar, Nancy McCoy on bass guitar, and Mike Marasse on drums. Their first release was a self-titled EP in July 1986. The band's chamber-pop sound aligned them with the Paisley Underground scene. Their debut album, Broomtree, followed in 1987. Michael Stipe of R.E.M. directed a video for "Offering" from their album, Mincing Steps, released in 1988. After releasing the single "Cool Nights" in 1990, Downy Mildew returned with the EP Elevator in 1992 on High Street Records. Their sound had evolved towards alternative rock by this point. The album An Oncoming Train followed, and McCoy was replaced by Janine Cooper for their final album, Slow Sky, released in 1994. Downy Mildew disbanded in 1995.
