Biography
The Downchild Blues Band is a Canadian blues band from Toronto that formed in 1969. The ensemble was founded by the brothers Donnie Walsh and Richard Walsh. They achieved early professional momentum as the house band at Grossman's Tavern before recording their debut studio album, Bootleg (1971). This independent release was later distributed by RCA Records Canada. The ensemble gained international prominence after three songs from their studio album Straight Up (1973)âthe originals âI've Got Everything I Need (Almost)â and âShot Gun Bluesâ, and an adaptation of âFlip, Flop and Flyââwere featured on the first Blues Brothers album, Briefcase Full of Blues (1978). Following the death of the keyboardist Jane Vasey in 1982, the lineup included the lead singer Tony Flaim. Richard Walsh left the ensemble multiple times before a final departure in 1990, after which Chuck Jackson became the lead singer. Their discography includes the studio recording Can You Hear the Music (2013), which received a Juno Award.
