Born in Montreal on July 10, 1984, to parents originally from Haiti, singer Dominique Fils-Aimé studied classical piano and voice, and made her stage debut in 2011 with the group Tuff Love Groovy Therapy. In 2015, she tried her luck on the TV show La Voix, where she made it all the way to the semi-finals, leaving a strong impression nonetheless. After releasing her first EP that same year, The Red, the neo-soul and jazz performer collaborated with the Key of Groove quintet, artists Radiq, Ohm Oumani and the group Mouse on the Keys. In 2017, she multiplied her festival appearances, in Canada as well as Japan, then the following year at the Festival international de jazz de Montréal. Signed by the Ensoul label, she records the album Nameless (2018), the first part of a trilogy exploring the history of Afro-American music, notably through the poems of Maya Angelou. She continues with Stay Tuned! (2019), with light accompaniments that bring out her a cappella-like vocals. Honors follow in 2019, with a Radio-Canada Revelation listing, a Polaris Prize nomination and the Félix Award for Jazz Album of the Year at the ADISQ gala. After the 2021 release of Three Little Words, which closes her trilogy, Dominique Fils-Aimé begins a new cycle dedicated to the mother figure with Our Roots Run Deep (2023), followed by My World Is the Sun (2026).
