Biography
D*Note is a British electronic and acid jazz music project led by producer and composer Matt Winn. Formed in the early 1990s, the project debuted with the single "Now's the Time" (1991) before releasing the EP The More I See and the album Babel (1993) on Dorado Records. D*Note followed with Criminal Justice (1995), D*Note (1997), Fuschia Dog (2002), and Laguna (2006), working with vocalists including Beth Hirsch and Keith Osbourne. The single "Waiting Hopefully" reached number 46 in the UK Singles Chart in 1997 following the group's move to VC Recordings. D*Note also contributed music to film soundtracks, like Coming Down. While emerging from the early 1990s acid jazz movement, D*Note developed a distinctive sound shaped by modal jazz and twentieth-century classical composers. Their music reflects influences from Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Aaron Copland.
