Makoto Shimizu, known professionally as Makoto, is a Japanese drum and bass musician born in 1977 in Tokyo. He began producing music around 1998, influenced by the drum and bass style of Goldieâs Timeless and LTJ Bukemâs Logical Progression. His early releases include the singles âFar East / Butterflyâ (1999) and the Situations EP (2000). Makotoâs unique sound received the attention of LTJ Bukem, leading to features on several of Bukemâs mix CDs. He released his debut studio album, Human Elements (2003), through Good Looking Records. He achieved a major hit with the track âGolden Girlâ (2005), which reached Number 1 on the Drum & Bass Arena charts. Subsequent albums include Believe in My Soul (2007) and Souled Out (2011), the latter issued worldwide by his own label, Human Elements. Makoto has also contributed music to video game soundtracks, such as the Gran Turismo series and Forza Horizon 5 (2021). The latter features the songs âTrial Mountainâ and âAnother Starâ. His discography also includes the studio albums Salvation (2017) and Motion of Change (2022).
