Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook are a British songwriting duo who met in the early 1970s at a local folk club. Their first single, "Love's Crashing Waves", released in 1984, entered the UK Singles Chart at Number 57, marking their commercial breakthrough. That same year they issued the selfâtitled album Difford & Tilbrook, which included "Hope Fell Down" and "Picking Up the Pieces" and established them as key figures in newâwave rock. After Squeezeâs temporary split in 1982, the pair toured and recorded under the same name, producing the 1984 album and later collaborating on the 2018 single "Take Me I'm Yours" with Robert Glasper and Questlove. Their partnership supplied Squeeze with hits such as "Cool for Cats", "Up the Junction", "Another Nail in My Heart", "Pulling Mussels (From the Shell)", "Tempted" and "Annie Get Your Gun", many reaching the UK Topâ¯20 between 1979 and 1984. Chris Difford left Squeeze in 1999, after which both pursued solo careers while continuing to collaborate; they resumed touring as a duo in 2014, performing Squeeze classics in intimate UK venues.
