Biography

Danish singer and musician Dicte was born Benedicte Madsen in Glostrup in 1966. She cites Janis Joplin as one of her main influences and Joplin's trademark powerful delivery is reflected in Madsen's own vocal style. After moving to the town of Aarhus at the age of 21, Madsen formed the band Her Personal Pain who became a national success after appearing at the 1990 Roskilde Festival. Following the release of their critically-acclaimed debut album in 1992, Madsen decided to leave the group and pursue a solo career. She released her debut album 'Between Any Four Walls' in 1994 and quickly established herself as an artist in her own right. In 2006 Madsen launched a new musical project with keyboard player Kæv Gliemann performing under the name Dicte and the Sugarbones. The band released their self-titled debut album in 2006 which was to be their only album. As a soloist Madsen has released five albums, the last one being 'Tick Tock' which she released in 2010. Alongside her success as a songwriter and musician Madsen has enjoyed a parallel acting career and has featured in numerous films and stage plays.
