Biography

Ampop was an Icelandic pop-rock band from Reykjavík, founded in 1998 by Kjartan F. Olafsson and Biggi Hilmarsson. The name Ampop is derived from the words "ambient" and "pop," reflecting their initial musical direction. Initially a duo, they later added Jón Geir Jóhansson on drums before recording their third album. Their early albums, Nature Is Not A Virgin (2000) and Made For Market (2002), were electronic-based. Ampop gained international attention in 2005 when Zane Lowe played demo versions of “My Delusions” and “Don’t Let Me Down”, leading to a live performance at SXSW in Austin, Texas. Following this, they released the album My Delusions (2005), and the single “My Delusions” received a UK release via Relentless Records imprint Stimulus Records. After their hiatus in 2007, members pursued solo projects: Biggi Hilmarsson formed Blindfold and Kjartan Olafsson released his debut solo album as Kjarr.
