Demdike Stare, a duo consisting of Sean Canty and Miles Whittaker, was formed in Manchester, United Kingdom. The group began their musical journey in 2009, releasing their debut album Symbiosis on Modern Love Records, a notable label for British Dub Techno. Their name is a nod to Elizabeth Southern, known as Mother Demdike, the leader of the "Pendle Witches" from Lancastershire who died in prison in 1622. The duo has gained recognition for their unique blend of Dark Ambient and Dub-Techno, producing albums such as Tryptych (2011) and Wonderland (2016), the latter featuring dancefloor-ready tracks. Demdike Stare has performed at various prestigious venues and festivals, including the Berghain in Berlin and the Getty Foundation's exhibition "London Calling: Bacon, Freud, Kossoff, Andrews, Auerbach, and Kitaj" in Los Angeles (2016). Their musical research continued with Passion (2018), showcasing their evolving sound.
