Joshua Evans Turner, known professionally as Dem Atlas, was born on May 31, 1992 in Akron, Ohio. He moved to Minneapolis at age four and attended Eagan Senior High School. In 2013, Dem Atlas self-released his debut EP Charle Brwn and signed with Rhymesayers Entertainment later that year. His breakthrough came in 2014 with the critically acclaimed EP Dwnr, which was included on Pitchfork's "Best MN Hip-Hop Releases of 2014" list. In 2016, he released the mixtape MF Dem. His debut solo studio album, Bad Actress, was released in 2018. In 2020, Rhymesayers ended its working relationship with Dem Atlas amidst allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse, which he refuted. He then signed a management deal with San Francisco Supply in 2021 but parted ways after a year. On November 12, 2021, he self-released the EP redeMption.
