David Stefan Rovics, born on April 10, 1967 in New York City, is an American singer-songwriter known for his topical and politically charged music. His early interests included nuclear disarmament and vegetarianism, shaping his counterculture outlook. In the late 1980s, Rovics began performing as a busker in streets, subways, and small clubs, immersing himself in leftist counterculture. By the mid-1990s, he was touring extensively, playing at various venues including cafes, pubs, universities, churches, union halls, and protest rallies. His album Make It So was released in 1996, followed by several other albums such as We Just Want the World and Pay Day at Coal Creek, both released in 1998. Rovics has been featured on programs like Democracy Now! and the BBC. Notable works include "Up The Provos" about Francis Hughes and "Who Would Jesus Bomb?".
