Biography
David DQ Lee (David Dong Qyu Lee) is a Canadian-Korean opera singer, born in South Korea in 1978. Fascinated by the world of opera after seeing the film Farinelli (released in 1994), he familiarized himself with operatic singing and in particular the countertenor voice, which he studied at the Vancouver Academy of Music with Phyllis Mailing. Winner of several singing competitions, including the grand-prix at the 43rd Francisco Viñas International Competition in Barcelona, David DQ Lee has been performing on opera stages worldwide since 2003, collaborating with renowned companies and conductors such as René Jacobs, William Christie, Andrea Marcon, Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Riccardo Minasi and Yannick Nézet-Séguin. In addition to a variety of roles ranging from Baroque to contemporary music, the countertenor also performs in recital and has made several recordings: Arianna à Naxos for ATMA Classique in 2004, Reflection in 2009 and Dream Quilter in 2024.
