Biography

Born in Santo André, Sao Paulo, Brazil, on November 29, 1989, Bruno De Sá is an opera singer known for his countertenor voice even though he prefers to be classified as a soprano. He began his musical journey singing in a church choir while also studying piano, flute, and clarinet. He studied singing in São Paulo and trained in music from the baroque era as well as in the works of Bach, Mozart, Wagner, Puccini, Britten, and John Adams. As a teenager, he made his live debut on an opera stage in a 2013 production of Kurt Weill’s Saying Yes and followed that with several years of performances on stages throughout Brazil. In 2019, Bruno de Sá joined the Basel Opera Studio in Switzerland and performed during their 2019-2020 season before performing in several other European cities including Berlin, Germany and Helsinki, Finland. He performed in productions such as Wagner’s Tannhäuser (2017), Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro (2020), and baroque operas composed by Hasse, Handel, Porpora, and A. Scarlatti. Bruno De Sá’s 2022 debut album, Roma Travestita, includes arias by L. Vinci, A. Scarlatti, Vivaldi, R di Capua, Arena, Galuppi, Conforto, Cocchi, Fajer, and Piccinini. The critically acclaimed album was awarded with the Diapason d'or Discovery in France.
