Biography

Dave Stewart & The Spiritual Cowboys was formed in 1990 by former Eurythmics frontman David A. Stewart after his departure from the duo, with Chris Bostock, Jonathan Perkins, Olle Romo, Nan Vernon, Martin Chambers, and John Turnbull joining the line‑up; the group was based in the United Kingdom. Stewart’s first single, "Love Shines", introduced the band’s blend of electronic, folk, pop, and rock elements, and the same year the self‑titled album Dave Stewart and the Spiritual Cowboys was released on BMG, reaching UK 38, AUS 51, NED 50, NOR 20, and SWE 9. In early 1991 the band issued "Out of Reach" and "On Fire", followed by the album Honest on 14 January 1991, which charted at AUS 187, NED 86, and SWE 49. The group’s live presence was highlighted by a 1990 performance at Rockpalast in Köln, later issued as Live at Rockpalast – Köln 1990 in 2016. Despite a strong touring schedule and the distinctive double‑drum kit, the band disbanded in 1992; Stewart continued his solo career thereafter. The band’s releases remain noted for their cross‑genre approach and the cultural impact of their 1990s UK pop‑rock scene.
