Biography

Real name Suzanne Marguerite Renée Gauche, French singer and actress Dany Dauberson was born in Le Creusot (Saône-et-Loire) on January 16, 1925. Of Swiss origin on her mother's side, she grew up in Saint-Claude (Jura) and attended a boarding school for girls, where she already sang covers of well-known tunes for the school's shows. After taking lyric singing lessons in Lyon, she moved to Paris and frequented Suzy Solidor's cabaret, which gave her a chance on stage. Signed by the Odéon label, she recorded her first 25cm album in 1953, before achieving success with a series of 4-track singles for Pathé, under the musical direction of Roger Roger, including a cover - in the original English - of the jazz standard "Stormy Weather " (1956). On May 24 of the same year, Dany Dauberson takes part in the 1st Eurovision Song Contest in Lugano, where she performs "Il est là " and finishes in 12th place. Well-known abroad, the singer continued to tour abroad until the mid-1960s, particularly in Great Britain and the United States, where she was invited to appear on television and where her hits were compiled. After film appearances in L'Inconnue des cinq cités (1951), Soirs de Paris (1954), Par ici la sortie and C'est arrivé à 36 chandelles (1957), the actress played her last role in Du rififi à Paname, by Denys de la Patellière (1966). A companion of actress Nicole Berger, she was seriously injured in a road accident on April 8, 1967, while her friend died six days later. Diminished by the after-effects of the accident, Dany Dauberson stopped touring, performing only a few charity galas in Saint-Claude, where she was laid to rest after her death in Marseille on March 16, 1979, at the age of 54.
