Biography

The Dallas Jazz Orchestra, an American jazz big band, was founded in 1973 by Galen Jeter and Thom Mason. The group originated in Dallas, Texas, where Jeter sought to keep the big-band spirit alive. The Dallas Jazz Orchestra held its first concert at Joe Miller's club in 1974 and quickly gained popularity. Their debut album Hey Man! was recorded live at Maxine Kent's Club in 1975. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the Dallas Jazz Orchestra released several albums, including Super Chicken, Morning Glory, and Fat Mamma's Revenge. They performed internationally at events such as the Montreux Jazz Festival and the Seville Expo '92. The band also played for United States presidents Jimmy Carter and George Bush. In 1998, they released Scrapbook: The First 25 Years, a retrospective album.
