Da Lata, a British band formed in 1994 by Chris Franck and Patrick Forge, blended Afro-Brazilian influences with other London sounds. Their first release was as Trio Da Lata for Brownswood Records in Japan, featuring former Batu vocalist Sharon Scott on "Deep Water". The band's breakthrough came with their version of Edu Lobo's classic "Ponteio," which gained attention in Japan and New York. In 1998, they recorded "Pra Manha," which led to a signing with Chris Blackwellâs Palm Pictures. Their debut album Songs From The Tin (2000) featured London-based Brazilian vocalist Liliana Chachian and percussionist Oli Savill. The second album, Serious (2003), introduced Afrobeat influences and collaborations with Baaba Maal, Jhelisa, Bembé Segué, and Marcelo Jeneci. After leaving Palm Pictures, Da Lata released "Ronco da CuÃca" in Japan and "This Is Not Your Job" in the UK, both updated for their album Fabiola (2013) on Agogo Records.
