Cupertinos is a Portuguese early music vocal ensemble. Founded in 2009 by the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation in Vila Nova de Famalicão, District of Braga, it focuses almost exclusively on Portuguese musical heritage of the 16th and 17th centuries, drawing on world-renowned composers such as Duarte Lobo, Manuel Cardoso, Filipe de Magalhães and Pedro de Cristo. Over the years, the ensemble has worked on some 300 works, including over 120 premieres. Many of these unpublished works have been transcribed from their original sources by the ensemble members themselves, under the direction of conductor LuÃs Toscano and musicologist José Abreu (University of Coimbra and ESMAE). In addition to concerts in churches and performances at concerts and festivals in Portugal, Spain, Italy and the UK, Cupertinos organizes the annual International Festival of Portuguese Polyphony. As ambassadors of Portuguese polyphony, the singers record for Hyperion Records. Their debut album, Cardoso: Requiem, Lamentations, Magnificat & Motets (2018), was nominated for a Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik and won a 2019 Gramophone Award in the Early Music category. In 2020, the Cupertinos ensemble was a finalist at the PLAY - Portuguese Music Awards, before winning Best Classical Album the following year. Their discography continued with Duarte Lobo: Masses, Responsories & Motets (2020), Pedro de Cristo: Magnificat; Antiennes mariales; Missa Salve Regina (2022), F. de Magalhães & F. Guerrero: Masses Veni Domine & Vere Dominus est (2023) and F. Garro: Masses O quam pulchra es & Cante domino (2026).
