Biography

Cold Crush Brothers, an American hip-hop group from the Bronx, New York City, was formed in 1978. Their breakthrough came when Joey Robinson of Sugar Hill Records heard Big Bank Hank rapping over their music, leading to "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugar Hill Gang. The Cold Crush Brothers gained attention through live performances and battles, notably against The Fantastic Five in 1981. Their first single, "Weekend", was released in 1982, followed by "Punk Rock Rap" in 1983, which fused hip-hop and rock. They appeared in the film Wild Style (1982) and toured internationally. Notable releases include the album Troopers (1988) and singles like "Fresh, Wild, Fly and Bold". Money Ray, a member of the Cold Crush Brothers, passed away on October 3, 2002. DJ Tony Tone was inducted into the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture on September 24, 2016. Jerry Dee Lewis died on March 23, 2026.
