Stetsasonic, an American hip hop group from Brooklyn, New York City, formed in 1981. The original lineup included Daddy-O, Delite, and Crown Supreme, who later changed their name to Stetsasonic the Hip-Hop Band. The band's breakthrough came when they signed with Tommy Boy Records after performing "If You Can't Say It All Just Say STET"live for Tom Silverman, owner of Tommy Boy. Their debut album On Fire was released in 1986 and received mixed reviews. In 1988, Stetsasonic released their album In Full Gear, which included singles such as "Sally" and "Float On". The band's subsequent album Blood, Sweat & No Tears (1991) was critically acclaimed, while "Talkin' All That Jazz" was a notable single rather than an album. Stetsasonic is noted for being one of the first hip hop acts to perform with a full band and use live instrumentation in their recordings, incorporating elements of R&B, jazz, dancehall reggae, and rock into their sound. The group also pioneered jazz rap. Individual members pursued solo careers while maintaining Stetsasonic; notable collaborations include Frukwan and Prince Paul's work with Gravediggaz, Daddy-O's production for Mary J. Blige, and Wise's participation in commercials and documentaries. In 2019, the band performed at the Urban Matterz Hip Hop Festival, showcasing their continued activity.
