Clowns & Helden, a German pop rock band formed in 1985, originated from Hamburg. The group emerged from another band called ZULU and was initially known for their performances in youth centers and solidarity concerts. Their breakthrough came with the release of their single "Ich liebe dich" in 1986, which reached number 4 on the German charts and achieved gold status. The song's initial version featured the line "Wir haben 86â¦", but it was re-recorded with "Wir haben 87â¦" to reflect its chart success in 1987. The band released their debut album Von beteuerten Gefühlen und anderer Kälte in 1986, followed by the mini-album Die Wahrheit!?. In 1987, they released their self-titled album Clowns & Helden, which included notable tracks such as "Besser" and "Ich liebe dich". Their subsequent albums were Carsten Pape spricht: Willkommen in West-Poind-Blanc' (a spoken-word version) and Willkommen In West-Poind-Blanc', both released in 1988. Despite the success of their early singles, Clowns & Helden disbanded shortly after the release of these albums. Carsten Pape, a key member of the band, went on to work with other bands such as Vopá and Roh in the 1990s and collaborated with Lotto King Karl on albums like Freunde (2005) and Die groÃe Liebe (2009).
