Biography
Clive John (born Clive John Hambley; c. 1945 â 2011) was a Welsh bluesrock and progressive rock singer, keyboardist, and guitarist. He began his career in the mid-1960s as a member of the band The Bystanders before co-founding Man in 1969. John performed on the group's first six albums, remaining with the ensemble until his departure in 1972. In 1975, he released his only solo album, You Always Know Where You Stand with a Buzzard, under United Artists Records. The self-penned album incorporated diverse rock genres, drawing influences from Frank Zappa, the Grateful Dead, and Quicksilver Messenger Service. John died in Swansea on August 24, 2011, due to lung emphysema. Throughout his career, particularly during the 1970s, he was a prominent figure in the Welsh rock movement.
