Walter Clayton Crossnoe, known professionally as Clay Crosse, was born on February 11, 1967, in Memphis, Tennessee. He started his career working as a courier for FedEx before transitioning to music full-time. Crosse released his debut album, My Place Is With You, in 1994, which included the successful single "I Surrender All". This breakthrough allowed him to leave his job at FedEx and focus on his musical career. His subsequent albums include Time To Believe, Stained Glass, and A Different Man. Notable songs include "Midnight Cry" and "He Walked A Mile". Crosse won the Dove Award for "New Artist of the Year" at the 25th GMA Dove Awards in 1994. He has served as worship pastor at several churches, including The Love of Christ (TLC) Community Church in Memphis under head pastor Dana Key.
