Biography

The Classical Jazz Quartet, a jazz quartet formed in 2001 in the United States, consisted of established jazz performers Kenny Barron on piano, Stefon Harris on vibes and marimba, Ron Carter on bass, and Lewis Nash on drums. The group was known for their interpretations of classical music arranged by Bob Belden and Suzanne Severini. Their debut album, Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, was released in November 6, 2001. Following this, they released The Classical Jazz Quartet Plays Bach in September 24, 2002, which included arrangements of works by Johann Sebastian Bach. Subsequent albums featured compositions by Sergei Rachmaninov, including Play Rachmaninov (released May 16, 2006), Christmas (October 17, 2006) which included a previously unreleased interpretation of George Frideric Handel’s "Messiah", and Play Tchaikovsky (2006). The group's discography also includes compilations such as The Complete Recordings (May 11, 2004) and Anthology (2011).
