Biography
Hennie Bekker is a composer, arranger, producer, and keyboardist. Bekker was born in Northern Rhodesia and raised in Mufulira. Bekker first became enamored with piano at age six. At 15, Bekker and friends formed the band "The Youth Marvels". Bekker later moved to Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia, and eventually to Johannesburg, South Africa, to work as a session musician. Bekker released the album Turn On (1971). Bekker collaborated on the first 14 albums of the Solitudes - Exploring Nature with Music series, including the quadruple-platinum Harmony (1989). Bekker won a Juno Award for their work with the techno-driven trio BKS. Bekker has recorded over 60 albums, including the African Tapestries series debut Temba (1995) and the album Amani (2009). Bekker releases music on the Abbeywood Records label.
