Biography

Chimaobinna Enyiakanwanne Onyele, known professionally as Chima, was born on November 16, 1972, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. He is a singer specialising in contemporary R&B and soul music. Chima's parents immigrated to Germany from Nigeria in the early 1960s. His musical journey began in the mid-1990s as part of the English-language rap group Otropic T(h)ree with Aisha and Ismael Abdallah, though their debut album did not achieve commercial success. Chima's breakthrough came in 2000 when he joined Brothers Keepers, achieving national recognition with the Number 4 single "Adriano (Letzte Warnung)". His solo career commenced with the release of Reine Glaubenssache in 2002, featuring singles "Ich leb das" and "Lass los". In 2005, he released his second album, Im Rahmen der Möglichkeiten, which marked a transition to German-language reggae and soul. Chima signed with Universal Music Group in 2012, releasing the single "Morgen", which sparked controversy due to similarities with Herr von Grau's song of the same name. Notable collaborations include a duet with Namika for the film Rate Your Date in 2019. Chima has also embarked on several tours, including his first solo tour, Merkst du was Tour, in November 2012.
