Ernesto "Chico" Ãlvarez Peraza, known professionally as Chico Alvarez, is an Afro-Cuban American singer of Latin American music born in New York City. He grew up in Cuba and resided in New Jersey. Alvarez performed as a singer throughout the New York City tri-state area since the 1980s. The artist performed with the Afro-Cuban band Mafimba. He hosted the Latin jazz radio show New World Gallery on WBAI Pacifica Radio. Alvarez received an award from the National Federation of Community Broadcasters and interviewed notable artists such as Dizzy Gillespie and Tito Puente.
