Biography

Cha Wa, an American funk band formed in 2014 in New Orleans, Louisiana, blends traditional Mardi Gras Indian music with modern funk and soul. Founded by drummer Joe Gelini, the group connected with Monk Boudreaux upon moving to New Orleans. Cha Wa released their debut album Funk 'n' Feathers in April 2016. Their second album, Spyboy, was released in 2018 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Regional Roots Music Album. In 2021, Cha Wa released their third album, My People, which also received a Grammy nomination. Notable songs include "Visible Means of Support" and its remix "No Justice, No Peace Remix", the latter winning an Offbeat Magazine Best of the Beat Award for Music Video of the Year in 2020.
