Biography

Celina GonzÃ¡lez was a Cuban singer and songwriter born in Cuba in 1929. Celina GonzÃ¡lez Zamora performed in the duo Celina & Reutilio, which released the hit recordings âA Santa BÃ¡rbaraâ (1956) and âYo soy el punto cubanoâ. Following the Cuban Revolution, they performed as a soloist starting in 1964 and collaborated with their son LÃ¡zaro. GonzÃ¡lez received the Disco de Plata award for the album Celina (1980) and the Vanguardia Nacional award in 1984. Their discography includes the albums Yo soy el punto cubano (1982), La rica cosecha (1997), and Desde la Habana te traigo (1998). They received a Grammy nomination for the recording Cincuenta aÃ±os... como una reina (2001) and won the National Music Prize of Cuba in 2002. GonzÃ¡lez died in 2015.
