Biography

Cathie Ryan, born in Detroit, Michigan, is an American singer-songwriter known for her work in Celtic music. Ryan became active in the 1980s and was considered a leading singer in the Celtic music scene. She was the lead singer of Cherish the Ladies, with whom she recorded two CDs. Ryan launched her solo career in 1995 and released five albums: Cathie Ryan (1997), The Music of What Happens (1998), Somewhere Along the Road (2001), The Farthest Wave (2005), and Through Wind and Rain (2012). Throughout her career, Ryan has collaborated with various artists, including Robin Spielberg and Susan McKeown, on Mother (1998) and contributed to compilations such as Narada Presents: The Best of Celtic Christmas (2002). She has continued to tour extensively, performing at festivals, folk clubs, performing arts centers, and with symphony orchestras.
