Biography

Cassietta Baker, known professionally as Cassietta George, was born on January 23, 1929, in Memphis, Tennessee. She began singing at age four in her father's church and later joined the Brewster Ensemble and The Caravans, a gospel group led by Albertina Walker. George launched her solo career with I Must Tell Jesus (1967) and released several albums, including This Is Your Day (1980), I Want To See Jesus (1984), and Up, Up And Away (1993). She was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1969 and 1979 for Best Soul Gospel Performance. In 2017, she was inducted into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame. George passed away on January 3, 1995, in Los Angeles at age 65.
