Carol Hitchcock, born on 10 December 1959 in Melbourne, is a singer and actor known for her distinctive style. She began her music career as a vocalist for Melbourne-based funk bands Bang and Cat People before signing with Mushroom Records in the mid-1980s. Her breakthrough came in 1987 with the release of "Get Ready", a cover version of The Temptations' track produced by Stock Aitken Waterman. The single peaked at number 18 on the Kent Music Report Singles Chart, number 56 in the UK, and number 47 in New Zealand. Her stand-out style included her shaved head, which she first adopted at age 14. In addition to her music career, she acted in TV programs, notably appearing in the series Prisoner in 1985. Her music video for "Get Ready" was broadcast on the final episode of Countdown, where compère Molly Meldrum interviewed her. She also contributed to the charity record Ferry Aid, covering "Let It Be" with notable artists including Paul McCartney, Kate Bush and Bananarama. Despite plans for a follow-up single and potential album, no further releases materialised, and her music career faded from public view by the late 1980s.
