Biography

Caramelos de Cianuro is an alternative rock band formed in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1991 by . Their journey began with songs like "Nadando a TravÃ©s de la Galaxia" and "Tu MamÃ¡ Te Va a Pegar" in 1992, capturing attention with their vibrant mix of Latin Punk and alternative rock. By 1994, they'd released their studio debut, Cuentos Para Adultos, marking their arrival on the Latin rock scene. The band's ascent continued with releases such as Harakiri City (1996) and the platinum-status Miss Mujerzuela (2000). 2002's Frisbee showcased their track "El Ãltimo Polvo," whose video was on high rotation in MTV Latin America. Despite some changes in their lineup, the creative core of Asiel Cazalis and Pavel Tello continued delivering well-received albums like Flor de Fuego (2006) and a self-titled project in 2010. Tragically, in 2012, their manager and close friend, Libero Iaizzo, was kidnapped and subsequently murdered, leading to a poignant tribute at that year's Pepsi Music Awards. 2015 saw the release of 8, earning them Latin Grammy nominations for Best Pop/Rock Album and Best Rock Song for "Abismo." Following the departure of lead guitarist Miguel "El Enano" GonzÃ¡lez in 2019, Caramelos de Cianuro began functioning as a duo, releasing the album Control in 2021. Featuring guest spots by Argentine musicians Gabriel Pedernera, Gaspar Benegas, Richard Coleman, Didi Gutman, and Jota Morelli, Control solidified the band's reputation as a powerhouse in the Latin rock scene, receiving a nomination for Best Rock Album at the 2022 Latin Grammy Awards.
