Burkhard Paul Stangl, born on November 6, 1960, in Eggenburg, Austria, was an Austrian avant-garde and jazz guitarist, composer, and musicologist. He studied classical guitar at the Konservatorium Wien and later pursued studies in musicology at the University of Vienna. Stangl founded the jazz ensemble Ton.Art in 1985 and the chamber ensemble Maxixe for new music in 1991. His discography included notable albums such as Récital (1999) and Schnee (2000). He collaborated with various artists, including John Butcher, Angélica Castelló, and Taku Sugimoto. His compositions ranged from chamber music to orchestral works, including the opera Der Venusmond, which premiered in 1997 on the Empire State Building. Stangl's musical contributions were recognized with awards such as the Förderungspreis der Theodor-Körner-Stiftung in 1989 and the Förderungspreis (der Stadt Wien) for composition in 1993.
