Biography

One of Indonesia's longest-running metal bands, Burgerkill formed in Bandung in 1995. Initially comprised of lead guitarist Ebenz, vocalist Ivan Scumbag, bassist Kimung, and drummer Dadan, the band launched its career by releasing a number of singles on metal compilations, beginning with 1997's "Revolt!" A full-length album, Dua Sisi, followed in 2000, and its national success earned Burgerkill a multi-album deal with Sony. The band then made its major-label debut with 2002's Berkarat, which was named "Best Metal Production" at the Indonesian Music Awards, and returned in 2006 with Beyond Coma and Despair. Ivan Scumbag died later that year and was replaced by a new frontman, Vicky, who joined Burgerkill on the road before making his official debut with 2011's Venomous. Hailed as one of the year's best releases by Rolling Stone Indonesia, Venomous featured a heavier style that had more in common with death metal than Burgerkill's earlier work. Meanwhile, the group's lineup had shifted to include additional newcomers like bassist Ramdan and guitarist Agung, both of whom remained with Burgerkill throughout the decade. A winner at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards ceremony in 2013, Venomous was followed by 2018's Adamantine and 2020's Killchestra.
