British rock band, Brilliant was formed in 1982 by Martin Glover (also known as Youth). The group emerged from the ashes of Killing Joke, with Youth recruiting various musicians including Marcus Myers on vocals and guitar, Guy Pratt on bass, Andy Anderson and Peter Ogi on drums, and Rob Waugh on synthesizers. Their debut single "That's What Good Friends Are For..." was released in 1982, followed by "Colours" later that year. The band underwent several lineup changes before settling into a trio with Youth, Jimmy Cauty, and June Montana. In 1985, they released their cover of James Brown's "It's a Man's Man's World", which peaked at number 58 on the UK Singles Chart. Their only album Kiss the Lips of Life was released in 1986, produced by Stock Aitken Waterman and featuring the singles "Love Is War" and "Somebody". Despite critical acclaim for their debut singles, the album received mixed reviews and peaked at number 83 on the UK Albums Chart. Brilliant disbanded in late 1986, but members continued to collaborate on future projects, including Jimmy Cauty and Bill Drummond forming the KLF. The band's only album was reissued on CD by Wounded Bird in 2009, and on 2 CD by Cherry Red in 2025.
