Biography

Boukman Eksperyans is a Haitian musical group founded in 1978 in Port-au-Prince by Theodore Beaubrun Jr., Marjorie Beaubrun, Daniel Beaubrun, and Mimerose Beaubrun. The band's name honors Dutty Boukman, the leader of a 1791 slave rebellion. They replaced traditional roots instruments with electric ones, such as the bass guitar and electric guitars. The band gained fame in 1990 during the Carnival celebration in Port-au-Prince with their protest song “Ké-M Pa Sote” against the military government of General Prosper Avril. Their debut album Vodou Adjae was released in 1991 and was nominated for a Grammy Award. They released subsequent albums such as Kalfou Danjere, Revolutíon, Live At Red Rocks, and La Révolte des zombies.
