Biography

Boris Davidovitch Belkin, born January 26, 1948, in Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg), Soviet Union, is a Soviet violinist. He began studying the violin at age six and made his public debut at nine with Kirill Kondrashin performing Mendelssohn's Concerto. Belkin studied at the Moscow Conservatory under Yuri Yankelevich, Felix Andrievsky, and Isaac Stern. After visa refusals for the Paganini competitions in Italy, he emigrated to Israel in 1974, later moving to London and Paris before settling in Liège, Belgium. His international career began in 1974, performing with leading orchestras such as the Boston Symphony, Berlin Philharmonic, and Israel Philharmonic. Notable recordings include Paganini's Violin Concerto No. 1 with Zubin Mehta (1977) and violin concertos by Tchaikovsky and Sibelius with Vladimir Ashkenazy.
