Bobby Russell, was born on April 19, 1940, in the United States of America. He was a singer-songwriter who made significant contributions to country music. Russell's breakthrough came with his song "Little Green Apples", which won the Song of the Year Grammy Award in 1968 and was recorded by Roger Miller, O.C. Smith, and Patti Page. The song became a favorite of Frank Sinatra. Russell also penned hits like "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" for his then-wife Vicki Lawrence, which reached Number 1 on the country charts, and "Honey", a top hit for Bobby Goldsboro in 1968. As a performer, Russell's biggest chart success was with "Saturday Morning Confusion", a top 25 country hit and number 28 pop hit in 1971. His other notable songs include "Go Chase Your Rainbow" and the title track from the film The Grasshopper, "As Far as I'm Concerned". Russell's career spanned several genres, and he wrote hits for various artists, including Elvis Presley and Nancy Sinatra. He released albums such as Words, Music, Laughter and Tears (1968) and Bobby Russell Unlimited (1969). Russell died on November 19, 1992, in Nicholasville, Kentucky, from coronary artery disease at the age of 52.
