Robert Broom Jr. is an American jazz guitarist and educator born on January 18, 1961, in New York City. He began studying guitar at age 12 and attended the High School of Music and Art. Broom performed at Carnegie Hall in 1977 and collaborated with artists such as Art Blakey, Dave Grusin, and Tom Browne. He signed with GRP Records and relocated to Chicago in 1984. In 1990, he formed The Bobby Broom Trio. His discography included the studio recordings Clean Sweep (1981), No Hype Blues (1995), and Stand! (2001). Broomâs first album of original compositions, Upper West Side Story (2012), reached Number 1 on the College Music Journal jazz chart. He also released the recordings Soul Fingers (2018), Keyed Up (2022), and Jamalot (Live) (2024). Broom served as a professor at Northern Illinois University and mentored students for the Ravinia Festival.
