Biography
Robert Bloom, born on 15 January 1946 in Brooklyn, New York, was an American singer-songwriter whose career was marked by a blend of pop, calypso, and rock influences. In the early 1960s, he was a member of the doo-wop group The Imaginations. His own breakthrough came in 1969 when he secured a contract to write and record a jingle for Pepsi, which laid the foundation for his later success. He co-wrote "Mony Mony" for Tommy James and the Shondells and "Sunshine" for The Archies, and later contributed songs to the Monkees' album Changes and their 1971 single "Do It in the Name of Love". In 1970, he achieved his biggest hit with "Montego Bay", which peaked at number eight in the US and number three in the UK. His debut album, The Bobby Bloom Album, entered the Cash Box Top 100 Albums chart at number 99 in December 1970. Following this chart placement, he released albums such as Where Are We Going in 1971. He passed away on 28 February 1974.
