Biography
Blackbraid is an American black metal project originating from the Adirondack Mountains, formed in 2022 by Jon Krieger. Krieger, known under his Mohawk pseudonym Sgah'gahsowáh, released Blackbraid's debut single "Barefoot Ghost Dance on Blood Soaked Soil" in February 2022, followed by "The River of Time Flows Through Me" in March. The project's first album, Blackbraid I, was released on August 26, 2022, and featured contributions from Neil Schneider on drums and Adrian Baxter on the cover art. The album blended traditional black metal with indigenous musical elements and received critical acclaim, appearing on multiple year-end lists including those by Rolling Stone, Metal Injection, and Decibel. Blackbraid's second album, Blackbraid II, was released on July 7, 2023, and also garnered positive reviews. The project has performed at notable festivals such as Hellfest and Copenhell in 2023. On August 8, 2025 was released the third Blackbraid full-length, Blackbraid III.
