Biography
Black Cab is an Australian drone and electronica group from Melbourne that formed in 1999. The ensemble was founded by the principal songwriters James Lee and Andrew Coates. They achieved early professional momentum with their debut studio album, Altamont Diary (2004), a concept recording based on the Rolling Stones' Altamont Free Concert. The group is famous for creating thematic recordings, including Call Signs (2009), which was inspired by East German culture and was shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize. Their discography includes the studio recordings Jesus East (2006), Games of the XXI Olympiad (2014), and æ (Akira) (2017). In 2022, the ensemble released the studio recording Rotsler's Rules. Their former drummer, Richard Andrew, died in 2024.
