Bishop Dready Lewis Manning was born on August 10, 1934, in Northampton County, North Carolina. He was an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, and harmonica player. He started playing guitar at age seven and became known for his blues guitar and harmonica skills. In 1962, after a near-death experience, Manning converted to Christianity and dedicated his music to God. He founded St. Mark Holiness Church in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and began composing sacred songs with his wife, Marie, and their six children. Starting circa 1970, he recorded gospel 45s on various labels. In 2005, through the Music Maker Relief Foundation, he released Gospel Train. He won a North Carolina Arts Council Folk Heritage Award in 2003 for his contributions to his community's cultural life. Manning died in August 2017, aged 83.
