Artie "Blues Boy" White (born April 16, 1937) was an American blues and soul singer and guitarist from Vicksburg, Mississippi, who was based in Chicago. White performed with the gospel group the Harps of David before moving to Chicago in 1956. He sang with the Full Gospel Wonders but transitioned to blues in the early 1960s. In 1977, his single â(You Are My) Leanin' Treeâ reached number 99 on the Billboard R&B chart. White operated the blues clubs Bootsy's Show Lounge and the New Club Bootsy's. He released his debut album, Blues Boy, in 1985. Between 1987 and 1993, he recorded seven albums for Ichiban, including Thangs Got to Change (1989), a collaboration with Little Milton Campbell. White released the album Different Shades of Blue in 1994 and headlined the Chicago Blues Festival in 2000. He performed in a concert to honor Buddy Guy in 2008. White died from Parkinsonâs disease on April 20, 2013. After his death, the Artie âBlues Boyâ White Youth Scholarship Foundation was established in Illinois.
